Back in 2016, Russell and I sold our home in Sparks, Nevada, and almost everything in it. We bought an RV. Her name was Cocoa. She was a 36-foot motorhome with 3 slide-outs beauty, and we, and our two dogs (Major and Ruby), traveled the country for an entire year. We traveled to 26 states, from Florida to Alaska, and everything in between. Also, we saw a large portion of Western Canada in our travels back and forth to Alaska. We had no home base so anything and everything we needed went everywhere we went. Now, while Cocoa was quite large for 2 adults and 2 dogs, she still had limited space, and everything we carried needed to be light weight and multi-functional. That’s when I discovered these kitchen space savers, collapsible kitchen tools, a colander and salad spinner.
Kitchen Space Saver – Colanders
The colanders were our first purchase. In my opinion they are ingenious because they are both lightweight, fold flat and stack neatly. Unlike traditional colanders which are only used on occasion and are bulky and take up loads of space in your kitchen cabinet. Additionally, because these fabulous colanders are collapsible, I can open them up fully to drain off spaghetti, partially to drain off frozen shrimp, or leave flat for rinsing off berries. They are also dishwasher safe, which is an added bonus, (not that we had a dishwasher in the RV, but we do now.)
Kitchen Space Saver – Salad Spinner
I use my salad spinner ALL. THE. TIME. First of all, I love salad. We have salad, multiple times per week, either as a complete meal, or as a side salad to accompany whatever entrée I have cooked up. More times than not however, I don’t use the spinner insert, but it’s nice to have it when I need it. Typically, I just use the bowl and lid. It’s the perfect size bowl for creating a large tossed, green salad or chef’s salad. So, salad spinner and salad bowl, all in one! Plus, it folds flat and is light weight, just like the colanders.
Now, we no longer RV it around the country, but both the colander and the salad spinner are staples in my kitchen and are used frequently. Having collapsible tools such as these makes storing and organizing items in my kitchen so much more efficient. I highly recommend them if you are looking to replace either of them in your kitchen or are looking for some kitchen space savers. They are one to love.
